YOUTH CARE WORKER Department: Youth Services Center FLSA Status: Non-exempt Classification/Level: Part Time Date: 1/26/2021 Due to the nature of this position, we are looking for Male applicants at this time. Under the direction of the Youth Services Center Administration, the Youth Care Worker provides supervision and assists in maintaining a safe environment for the youth in our care. This position is not covered as defined by the Board of Commissioners of the County of Allen Employee Handbook. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsible for the supervision of the youth and maintaining a safe environment for the youth including wake-ups, showers, meals, recreation, study time, assigned work, special and seasonal activities and bedtime. Documents and updates files and paper work concerning the care of the youth. Evaluates resident’s behavior, resolves conflicts and addresses behavioral problems. Maintains communication with supervisors concerning residents’ behavior, ensuring prescribed treatment plans are implemented and in compliance with all plan specifications. Maintains clean unit with residents’ assistance including, but not limited to, sweeping floors, cleaning furniture and appliances, washing windows, stocking and sanitizing bathrooms and changing beds. Transports residents to off-campus activities and appointments. Dispenses medications and performs first aid to residents as needed. Models, assists and acts as a role model teaching daily living skills including hygiene. Creates structured activities for residents. Assists with intake of new residents, including completing required forms and securing clothes and personal possessions. Maintains inventory of supplies, linens and personal hygiene products. Distributes upon request, ordering supplies as needed. Performs all other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: High School or GED, Associates Degree or two years of college credits preferred, and one year experience working with youth or young adults Valid Driver’s License to operate County owned vehicle Must be 21 years of age or older Ability to maintain confidentiality of all Departmental records and information Working knowledge of local, state and federal laws applicable to Youth Services Center operations with the ability to apply and enforce regulations Strong written and verbal communication Ability to enforce center rules and regulations, resolve conflicts, respond to emergencies and take authoritative actions as needed Previous training as Youth/Child Care worker and crisis intervention REQUIREMENTS: (continued) Ability to prepare accurate and detailed records of all resident’s behavior Ability to safely restrain residents DIFFICULTY OF WORK: The Youth Care Worker has the understanding of the rules and regulations regarding the supervision of youth.
