Provide data relevant to the shape, contour, gravitation, location, elevation, or dimension of land or land features on or near the earth's surface for engineering, construction, and other purposes.Key Responsibilities . Record the results of surveys including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features; transmits survey data to the proper files in the computer network, and be able to acquire the data for field use . Calls out reading or writes station number and reading in notebook . Marks points of measurement with elevation, station number, or other identifying mark . Measures distance between survey points with steel or cloth tape or surveyor's chain . Marks measuring points with markers, paint sticks, tacks, scratches or stakes . Verify the accuracy of survey data including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites . Adjust surveying instruments to maintain their accuracy . Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain or current installations . Compute geodetic measurements and interpret survey data to determine positions, shapes, and elevations of geomorphic and topographic features . Determine longitudes and latitudes of important features and boundaries in survey areas using theodolites, transits, levels, and satellite-based global positioning systems GPS . Holds level or stadia rod at designated points to assist in determining elevations and laying out stakes for mapmaking, construction, land, and other surveys Place stakes at designated points and drives them into ground at specified elevation . Cuts and clears brush and trees or other possible obstructions from line of survey . Load/unload equipment and prepare for daily jobs .
