The position reports to the Director of Engineering and is part of the Controllable Solid Propulsion department based in Folsom, CA. This role is hybrid or remote and can be based in Folsom, CA, Reno, NV, Huntsville, AL, Long Beach, CA or Remote. In this role, the essential functions are: Lead complex mechanical design challenges for solid rocket motor systems, specialized igniters, pressure vessels, actuators, hot gas valves, and rocket thrusters; perform trade-off analyses and drive multidisciplinary design optimization. Develop detailed 2D and 3D CAD models, technical drawings, and apply and interpret complex Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and statistical tolerance analysis. Set up and validate structural, dynamic, thermal, and combustion simulations to address thermal management and structural optimization challenges. Apply expertise in advanced metals, refractory metals, ceramics, insulators, composites, and additive manufacturing to support design for manufacturability, welding, molding/casting, and assembly planning.
